This project initially started out because I can never remember which
tape to load when I run a backup. I have tried to include every rational
numbering scheme that I can think of. If you have a system that I have
not included, please contact me. I will try my best to add it to the
next release.
WhaTape is a front end for your backup program. WhaTape prompts the user
to insert the proper tape or diskette. The tape numbering schemes
supported are :
0) By number - Numbers run from 1 to 255. Each time a
backup is run the number increments by
1. By specifying the number of tapes in
the command line, you set the maximum
number. For example, by specifying 7 on
the command line, when the 8th backup was
run, you would be prompted to insert tape
number 1. If setting the errorlevel has
been enabled, the errorlevel will be the
same as the number of the tape prompted.
This will allow you to run your backup
program with different options depending
on which tape is used.
1) By Letter - Letters run from A-Z. Each time a backup
is run, the letter increments by 1. By
specifying the number of tapes on the
command line, you set the maximum letter.
For example, by specifying 7 on the
command line, when the 8th backup was run,
you would be prompted to insert tape A. If
setting the errorlevel is enabled, the
errorlevel will be the numeric equivalent
of the letter prompted. (A=1 etc.)
This will allow you to run your backup
program with different options depending
on which tape is used.
2) By Julian Date - Numbers run from 1 to 366. Tape 366 will
only be used in a leap year. This is
actually the days since the new year
started. The maximum number of tapes is
set to 365 or 366 depending upon the year.
If setting the errorlevel is enabled, the
errorlevel will be the numeric equivalent
of the day of the week.(Sunday=1 etc.)
This will allow you to run your backup
program with different options depending
on which day of the week it is.
3) By day of the month - Numbers run from 1 to 31. The actual day
of the month is the number of the tape
prompted. If setting the errorlevel is
enabled, the errorlevel will be the same
as the day of the month.
4) By day of the week - Days run from Sunday to Saturday. The tape
prompted for will be the actual day of the
week. If setting the errorlevel is
enabled, the errorlevel will be the
numeric equivalent of the day of the week.
(Sunday=1) This will allow you to run your
backup program with different options depending
on which day of the week it is.
5) By the actual date - The tape prompted for will be the actual
date in a text form. If setting the
errorlevel is enabled, the errorlevel will
be the numeric equivalent of the day of
the week. This will allow you to run your
backup program with different options depending
on which day of the week it is.
All options are specified from the command line. The options are as
follows:
Method:
/m0 - Enables Numeric tape prompting.
/m1 - Enables Alphabetic tape prompting.
/m2 - Enables Julian date tape prompting.
/m3 - Enables Day Of The Month tape prompting.
/m4 - Enables Day Of The Week tape prompting.
/m5 - Enables Date prompting.
Logs:
/l - Enables log reporting to WHATAPE.LOG. The
log file will be in the directory where
WHATAPE.EXE resides.
Disk:
/d - Replaces "TAPE" with "DISK" in prompts.
Errorlevel:
/e - Enables errorlevel reporting. See above for
errorlevel results.
Tapes:
Specifying this value sets the highest tape number
or letter for numeric or alphabetic tape prompting.
No delimiter is needed, just the number.
Examples:
WHATAPE /m0 7 /l /e
WHATAPE /m3 /l /e /c
WHATAPE /m1 10

have been set will be reported.
